Design and Feel
The Performance Core material is designed to provide the surfer with the feel of traditional fiberglass fins but with the added performance of reduced weight.
This makes the PC-5 fins quite different from the PG-5 and M5 fins.
The PC-5 fins also feature FCS’ Inside Foil Technology which is not utilized in the PG-5s but is in the M5 fins. This inside foil makes you go much faster than the old G5s did by providing your surfboard with increased drive.
These are also the only fins of the PC-3, PC-5 and PC-7 thruster fin sets that have slightly more flex. This makes them a bit more forgiving and easier to ride.
The fin base of the PC-5 fins is 4.37” (111mm) and they have a depth of 4.55” (115mm). The total fin area measures 14.76”2 (9525mm2) and the fin sweep is set to 33 °.
Wave Conditions
Since the FCS PC-5 fins are modelled after the G5 fin template they are a great all round surfboard fin set for the average surfer that can be used in most surf conditions.
The Look
Similar to the PC-3 fins, the Performance Core hex pattern is visible when looking at the PC-5 fins. They also feature a blue stripe that outlines the fins and have the FCS logo and PC-5 stamped at the base of the fins in white.
Surfer Specifications
As compared to the PC-3 and PC-7 fins, the PC-5s are sized for the average weight rider in the 130 – 180 pounds (60 to 80 kg) weight range.
What We Say
If you are an experienced surfer and are still stuck with the old Carbon Lite G5 fins, then it might be time for you to try the newer PC-5 fins. The benefits of the lightweight Performance Core and Inside Foil of these surfboard fins alone make them worth the upgrade.
If you already own the PG-5 fins or M5 fins you may also want to spice up your fin collection with the PC-5s.
However if you are a beginner surfer you may want to keep it simple and opt of the PG-5 fins instead.
