FCS K2.1 Performance Core Fins
The FCS K2.1 Performance Core fins were designed by 8 time World Title holder Kelly Slater. The K 2.1 template is Kelly’s signature fin design for riding beach breaks, hollow waves and surfing tight in the pocket.
By the time he was 20 years old (in 1992) Kelly Slater had won his first world title – making him the youngest world champion surfer ever. He has continued to be a dominant force on the WCT, leading the pack and taking the sport to new levels.
Deemed the world’s greatest surfer, you can be sure that any fins that are designed and ridden by Slater are going to be based off of immense wave riding knowledge.
How Much Will This Fin Set Cost?
The K2.1 Performance Core fins retail for US $78. Below are the current prices of this fin set at a variety of online stores and surf shops.
Design and Feel
The FCS K2.1 PC fins are a thruster fin set designed for medium sized surfers in the 140 to 175 lb (65kg-80kg) range.
The K2.1 PCs side fins and center fin have a different template and size. The side fins, which have a base of 4.33” (110mm) and a depth of 4.53”(115mm), are larger than the center fin with a total surface area of 15.23”2 (9824mm2). The side fins also have a sweep of 32⁰.
The smaller center fin complements these side fins. This fin has a base of 4.28” (109mm), a depth of only 4.41” (112 mm) and a total area of 14.22”2 (9172mm2). The sweep of the center fin is also slightly less and equals 31⁰.
The FCS K2.1 (PC) fins are from the Performance Core line of FCS surf fins. This fin material combined with the RTM process allows you to experience a lightweight fin set with remarkable flex.
This design makes the FCS K2.1 Performance Core fins a very high performance set of removable fins that are ideal if you enjoy riding fast and off the top or in the pocket surfing.
Wave Conditions
Kelly Slater says he uses these fins mostly for barreling waves and beach breaks on the WCT, while turning to the K3 fins for long walled waves and down the line surfing. But this fin set can be used in almost any surf conditions and can be ridden at pretty much every type of break.
The Look
The K2.1 PC Fins feature the popular artwork that is featured on the K2.1 line of FCS fins. These fins are therefore blue in color with a lighter blue trim around the outside edge of the fins. There is also a white circle in the middle of the fins.
However since these fins are made with FCS’ Performance Core material they have a HEX pattern seen throughout the fins.
The K2.1 PC fins also have “FCS K2.1” stamped in white towards the base of the side fins.
