FCS DHD-2 Performance Core Fins
The FCS DHD-2 Performance Core surf fins are the PC version of the popular FCS surf fins template by Darren Handley.
What has made this surf fin set by FCS so popular is the ability of the center fin to be adjusted forward or backward to change the fin set's responsiveness.
By moving the center fin forward you essentially bring the tri fin cluster closer together. This makes your surfboard more maneuverable. On the other hand moving the center fin backward increases the distance between the center fin and side fins. This in turn will make your surfboard stiffer and allow for down the line surfing and long arcs.
How Much Will This Fin Set Cost?
The DHD-2 Performance Core fins retail for US $73.99. Below are the current prices of this fin set at a variety of online stores and surf shops.
Design and Feel
This version of the FCS DHD-2 fins are made out of FCS' Performance Core material. The Performance Core fin construct maintains the feel of traditional fiberglass fins but increases fin performance through a reduction in fin weight. This is achieved with their Resin Transfer Moulding process.
The dimensions of the FCS DHD-2 Performance Core fins are identical to those of the Glass Flex version of the fin set, with a fin base of 4.33" (110mm), fin depth of 4.65" (118mm) and fin area of 14.86"² (9590mm²). The fin sweep of these PC FCS fins is also 34°and feature a flat foil.
One difference you may notice is that the Performance Core material provides less flex than the Glass Flex material and therefore this verision of the DHD-2 fins are stiffer than their Glass Flex counterpart. These fins therefore provide a bit more response, speed and drive.
Wave Conditions
Like the Glass Flex version, these FCS fins can be used in all types of surf. If you find that your surfboard is too loose for the surf condtions you can easily shift the center fin back towards the tail to stiffen up your board. The reverse can be done to make your surfboard ride looser to suit small, fast waves.
The Look
The FCS DHD-2 Performance Core fins are black in color and feature the "Darren Handley Designs" star logo in gold and black. The FCS logo and DHD-2 is also stamped at the base of the fin in gold and black.
Since these surfboard fins are made from Performance Core material the honeycomb hex structure of the PC construct is visible throughout the fins.
Surfer Specifications
These surfboard fins are a medium size fin set designed for the average size surfer. Therefore if you weigh between 130 to 180 pounds or 65kg to 80kg these fins will be ideal for you.
