The FCS AM-2 PC is another high performance thruster fin set designed for medium and smaller surfers. A perfect fin set for the older groms, this template is designed off of Al Merrick’s original template with Inside Foil Technology.

Design and Feel
With maximum drive and tons of pivot due to its smaller center fin these fins allow for quick release through your turns and some high performance surfing!
The FCS AM-2 PC fins are designed with FCS’ Performance Core material. This fin material provides you with the feel of traditional fiberglass surfboard fins while offering increased performance due to its lightweight.
A major benefit of the Performance Core material is that the Resin Transfer Molding process utilized by FCS creates a lightweight fin with remarkable flex. This allows you to push extremely hard against your tail and fins through turns without losing control.
The FCS AM-2 PC fins also feature FCS’ Inside Foil Technology. This inside foil is a more advanced, asymmetrical foil design that increases lift and reduces drag, providing you with more drive and speed. This is very beneficial for surfers that love speed.
The FCS AM-2 PC side fins feature a fin area of 14.89”2 (9608mm2) which is essential for the force that a small to medium sized (but powerful) surfer will exert on them. The fins also feature a base of 4.55″ (116mm) These FCS fins sit 4.52″ (115mm) deep, feature a sweep of 36.6 degrees and have a stiff flex.
The center fin on the other hand is a bit smaller with a base of 4.34″ (110mm), sitting 4.41″ (112mm) deep, and a sweep of 35 degrees. The center fin features also feature a 50/50 foil providing stability and control.
Wave Conditions
Compared to the FCS G-AM Glass Flex Fins, the FCS AM-2 Performance Core fins are a great all around surfboard fin set that can be used in all types of surf conditions… but the AM-2’s are better for medium sized surfers.
The Look
The FCS AM-2 Performance Core fins are a few different shades of orange and have the famous Channel Islands logo stamped in black on the outside center of the side fins. There is also a black stamped FCS logo and the AM-2 model showing on the base of the side fins. While not strongly visible, you can also see the Hex pattern that is signature of the Performance Core construction.
Surfer Specifications
Built for medium surfers, you should only invest in these surfboard fins if you weigh 140-175 pounds (65kg-80kg) or less.
What We Think
Since these fins are based off of Al Merrick’s already proven fin template design you can’t really go wrong here. For any medium surfer looking to improve the performance of their fin set the AM-2 PC fins are an awesome choice.
But we strongly recommend these FCS fins for groms who are on the upper limits of the small weight range and lower limits of the medium weight range (i.e 140 – 155 lbs) as a step-up from your small fin set (e.g G-1000s). The larger side fins allow for that added drive and hold you will need for your added weight while the smaller center fin will still allow for easy release.
Also considering that you get Performance Core material and Inside Foil Technology… there’s really nothing else you need to improve feel of your surfboard and your surfing quickly.
